Located in south Piemonte, Costigliole d’Asti is one of the most charming towns in the heart of the alto Monferrato area, just a stone throw from Langa Astigiana end Cuneese - an area renowned for winemaking, gastronomy and traditions to admire.

The surroundings of Costigliole d’Asti are composed of a fertile valley that belongs to the river Tanaro and gentle hills that rise up to the 300 meters above sea level.

From their peaks one can admire a breathtaking vista which, when the sky is clear, features the Alps in the background.

This area has been originally inhabited by Euburiates and Romans, who have left behind a significant architectural heritage, such as Castello di Costigliole which today is an important center of culture. Today the Castello di Costigliole is the home of ICIT (Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners) where cooks from all around the world study the secrets of Italian cuisine under the supervision of prestigious instructors. It is also the home of the Parco Culturale del Premio Grinzane Cavour (Cultural Park of the Grinzane Cavour Prize) where take place exhibitions, art shows & cultural events.

This land has been especially generous thanks to the closeness of the sea which, millions of years ago, extended over this area, making the soil very fertile. The uniqueness of this soil is demonstrated by the precious truffles that can be found in this area. In addition, this land is uniquely suitable for growing wine, and that is why Costigliole d’Asti has been named the Città del Vino, the city of wine
– it is the town that has the most extensive vineyards in Piemonte within its municipal borders.

The economy of Costigliole d’Asti has been always strongly connected to the land, which is almost exclusively dedicated to vineyards. In this area operate more than 700 wine growing companies, many of which export abroad and have received international recognitions.

In Costigliole d’Asti one can find “Cantina dei Vini” which brings together more than 40 wine producers, from Costigliole and surroundings, and offers, in addition to wine a carefully selected set of grappas and local foods. The prime of place in the Cantina is given to barbera of which it features more than 80 types.

In November it organizes a special event dedicated to the most important wine of the area, the barbera. The event, “Barbera, il gusto del territorio”, is focused on comparative tasting of the best barberas from Piemonte.
